What is Chinese Pulse Diagnosis?

This the cornerstone of identifying the root causes of health concerns in Chinese Medicine.  It detects how blood is flowing through the radial artery.  Distinctions of this flow correlate to how blood is flowing through specific areas of the body, including the organs.  This gives insight into how different health conditions relate to one another.  An herbalist will use this information to guide their treatment strategy.

How does acupuncture work?

There are different styles of acupuncture and each have their own strengths. I primarily use a method called Distal Needling Acupuncture, or DNA®, which was developed by Robert Doane from the roots of the Balance Method pioneered by Dr. Richard Tan. This method places needles distal, or far-away, from the site of pain. For example, a shoulder pain can be addressed with needles in the wrists, ankles and/or knees. Pain relief is felt on the table within moments. The release in the brain of certain natural pain-killing chemicals, such as enkephalin and endorphin, stimulate blood flow and pain relief in targeted areas. All needles used are very small, the width of a strand of hair, making the treatment enjoyable and relaxing.

How does Chinese herbal medicine work?

With over 11,000 medicinal herbs in its arsenal for healing, Chinese herbal medicine is the oldest documented pharmacy in our world with formulations dating back 2500 years. Many evidence based studies have shown the effectiveness in successfully treating common and complex ailments. Natural and safe, this modality is a great first choice in restoring proper function in your body. As your body gets healthier, your herb prescription will change, sometimes adding new herbs and other times taking away ones no longer needed. Herbs are potent and should be used under the care of a board certified Chinese herbalist.
